Meet our Music Volunteers

Rick Builer

Photo coming soon.....

First Presbyterian’s sound and recording system is headed by Rick Builer, who volunteers his time each week to bring us an understandable Sunday service both in the Sanctuary and on the radio.

Each Sunday Rick sets up necessary microphones for the worship leaders and choirs, organizes the recording of the service and makes sure that the recording gets to WSAW (550AM) so it can be broadcast the following Sunday.

This is the ultimate buttons-and-gadgets job for the church, but even Rick needs a break from it on occasion. If you’re interested in learning how to monitor the sound system and record the service, contact the church office. Rick will be running orientation sessions soon.

When Rick is not at the church, he works for American Family Insurance in the computer tech department. Thanks, Rick, for sharing your talent and dedication with our congregation and our community!

Florence Goertz
Florence Goertz

Florence has faithfully tended the Music Library for over 30 years. Each Wednesday she prepares the Chancel Choir folders for the evening rehearsal, adding new music and removing and reshelving anthems that have been completed. She has carefully catalogued over 800 titles of choral music, plus instrumental music, handbell music and children’s anthems. If you want anything found in the Music Library, ask Florence! She is one of the Music Ministry’s greatest assets!

Joy Patterson
Joy Patterson

As many of you know, Joy wears many hats in the Music Ministry of First Presbyterian Church. Her most unique gift is composition. Many a worship service has been enhanced by her special hymns or anthems for a particular service, with a particular twist, or by the re-writing of an existing text to make it more relevant for our times or our church.

In addition to singing in the Chancel Choir, Joy has also joined Hallelu!, and has been expanding her compositional style to the more contemporary tone for our blended-style worship. Thanks, Joy, for enhancing our music with your thoughtful and inspiring compositions!

John Webb
John Webb

John diligently checks our most-frequently used pianos and retunes them once a month. This is so important, especially in the summer, when humidity levels change daily! Sometimes just “tweaking” a few notes in the tenor range of the piano can make a huge difference! Thank you, John!
