Welcoming Congregations
First Presbyterian in Wausau is one of several congregations in
Winnebago Presbytery that work in various ways to welcome people
regardless of sexual orientation. We hope for and work toward the
day when the whole Presbyterian Church will recognize and celebrate
the gifts of all whom God has called into membership. We long for
the day when people of every description are recognized for what
they are: children of a loving and forgiving God whose saving act is
not limited to those whom the church has from time to time
identified as 'the elect.'
Current Presbyterian law and culture appear to present certain
obstacles to some of God’s children being elected and ordained as
officers and ministers. The congregations listed below have a more
open understanding of the current rules, and are working in various
ways to make the Presbyterian Church completely welcoming and
accessible to people of every kind. We welcome all to full
membership and full participation.
There is discussion among these congregations and other
congregations and individuals about forming a
Covenant Network chapter in Winnebago Presbytery. If you would
like to be part of such a chapter, or you would like to know more
about any of the congregations below, you may contact them directly,
or contact the pastors listed here.
